I find comfort in facebook this morning. Strange how all the b-day wishes can encourage ones body to get out of bed and live in the story of another day. Better still is having your kids run in before school, even though you were up till 3am, giving you b-day love and cheer.
Don’t know what the day will bring, but im bringing myself into the day. Don’t know how the day will end, but will help determine that through my thoughts, behavior, love, and imagination.
2010 I feel like you and I might go somewhere. Your making me feel expectant, curious, nervous, this i like.
Well the trees outside are waving at me, best go see what they want.

Been a long long time since i placed fingers on keypad allowing simple letters to write thoughts like these. Life has brought so much, even too much in 2009 that there was no way in keeping the blog world moving. You could say i took a long sabbath from this medium but circled the world of facebook and twitter many times over.
With the dawn of a new day, new year, and decade, i think i will brave this world again. I sometimes freeze up wondering what i should share, how much is to much, or not enough. I wonder if i should be completely honest or only partially honest, if i should allow the soul the room to roam through words, thought, picture? How much is allowed regarding my personal and public life? Or is that subject to the reader and not the writer? I admit i would like to disclose the deep tides of this heart, knowing some would read and find them normal, refreshingly human, while others, well, others will read them through their own grid which is natural, something you cant control.
Confession: i want to control your responses, reactions, rejections. Be kind but be you. My insecurities act up regularly.
Well, that’s enough for now, more to come later. Need to get ready for a new years eve shin dig.
Confession: I don’t really want to go. Sad but true. The people are great, but i ache for the familiar faces of yesterday. Still finding my way in this new land, wonder if the landscape will burst with flowers among the thistles this year? Maybe I’m watering whats not mine, toiling without prospect of harvest, tending without rooting? Or just maybe this tasteless but filling transformative road i tread will guide me into a land of fresh soil and soul. Here’s to 2010.
For those that i call friends, happy new to you and yours. For those who are strangers, may we bump into each other with our eyes.
Mercy to us all..

So, this weekend my daughter (Ashtin) walked into the world offically wearing ‘jeans’. This may not be huge news for you, or the world, but it was a stunner for me and her mom. Ashtin has always disliked the way jeans feel and has opted for the casual knit pant. But, this past Sunday she strolls into our bedroom sporting her jeans that have been lying dormant in her dresser forever. She was all smiles as she boldly confessed the start of a new day, the day when jeans are wearable and welcome.
What does this all mean? Not sure, but as your daughter ages and develops before you it causes suttle heart palps:) Fashion world please be gentle.

What does it truly mean to stand, sit, live in solidarity with someone? A question that haunts and halts my/our existence. That someone you may never meet, and maybe your meeting is not as important as the experience of a shared humanity?
The dictionary defines solidarity as a ‘community of responsibilities, feelings’. Today 1.1 billion people don’t have access to clean drinking water! Do we or will we share this responsiblity or allow ourselves to ‘feel’ the thirst and draining disease that these unknown to us wake to? Maybe solidarity is a communal act of love birthed through diverse individuals who take on the intense ‘feelings/responsibility’ of another? Maybe its more complex, or way to simple, either way may we all risk a life of solidarity today and tomorrow.

Family took a last minute trip to Cannon Beach on the Oregon coast. A beautiful choice. Between the sun, rain, snow and hail we are the witnesses of God @ work. Seeing the differing form of Gods activity found in silent objects resting on sand, or mezmorised by the roaring sight and sound of waves crashing the coast line producing a firework spray of water.
A Sunday morning worship gathering with the creation as the audience, as curator, as music, and orator of God @ work.

Valentines Day has come and gone. The Russinger family spent the day eating Italian, escaping at the Apple Store, letting daddy feed his addiction at Borders, and then ending the day wearing 3D glasses watching the imaginative world of Coraline.
Coraline is a colorful creation of family disconnection, belonging, childhood friendship, loneliness, dispare, fantasy, spirituality, all with a restorative theme woven through (this just my take). I applaud the artistry found in the detail, drawing the viewer into both screen and story. You enjoy the honest personality coming from Coraline as relocation unsettles her existence and shoves her into explorative playfulness. It is her experiential nature, the mice in the night, and her parental dissatisfaction that takes her into the ‘other’ families wonderland. Though pseudo, Coraline finds enjoyment in her new ‘other’ families world and for 3 nights she wakes and crawls into the alluring kalidscope of ‘what if’. She begins to feel the pull of make believe, her soul is touched and tempted, producing the universal question, DO we entertain ‘the real’ OR the world we want to be real?
I came away with many avenues to explore, maybe for another time. But, i will share just one reflection. I found it interesting and telling that this ‘other’ world could be yours if you allow buttons (all different colors available) to be sewn onto your eyes. Give up your sight, give up your soul. For Coraline the more time she spent in this ‘other’ world she began to ’see’ its inconsistencies and lies. This illumination births a fight, a battle for her ‘real’ life, her real family, her soul and the souls of those who were previously lost to perverted beauty.
We may know the testing of Coraline, i know i have. When dissatisfaction and temptation waken the ‘other’ worlds around you you can either hold to truthful sight or welcome beautiful blindness.
Buttons anyone?

This is the new Large Capacity Washer that is now in the Transitions Global (Cambodia) Shelter for girls who are survivors of the sex trade.
How did this happen?
Through the influence of the Laundry Love Project in the US, we began thinking of how this idea might become global. We dreamed up and tested the Virtual Laundry Love Box, a virtual box costing $20 that would generate income to purchase laundry equipment for safe houses/shelters for trafficking survivors and displaced children around the world. We wanted 100% of the proceeds to go directly to the effort and asked that those who partnered with us would purchase the equipment from their local context, helping local economy.
The first partner was Transitions Cambodia, now Transitions Global, as they are taking the lead in opening the first ever shelter for trafficking survivors here in Portland Oregon.
With the help from one special girl living in Bend Oregon and dozens of others in the Portland and LA areas, this experiment worked. Together we have purchased this and the girls are so very grateful.
Thanks for making the virtual possible…
Creating a justone world…
